Abram1 Braille has come into our lives through our one and half year old son, Abram, who was born blind. It's the way in which he, and other people with visual impairments, will read and write. Our goal in hosting the Braille Awareness 5K, is to spread awareness of people with visual impairments in our community. Braille is just one of the unique ways in which people with visual impairments succeed in a sighted world.

Abram2 All of the proceeds will go to Forsight Vision in York, Pa. The center mainly provides services to visually impaired adults. However, with the money raised, we are looking into expanding their services to form a playgroup for infants and toddlers. Other possibilities include a respite for parents, or building a playground in Forsight Sensory Garden.

Abram3 Each day Abram continues to amaze us. He has blessed us with the ability to learn and experience things in different ways. We'd like to give something back to him, as well as other families and individuals that have been affected by visual impairments. With your support, this is all possible. Please join us on September 25th Annual Run/Walk and become aware!

Thank You.

With the proceeds from the First Annual Braille Awareness 5 K Race, ForSight Vision has initiated a number of new programs and services for children who are blind or vision impaired. Through your support we have been able to:

  • Establish ForSight Vision as a resource center for parents of children who are blind or vision impaired. Included in our resource center is the acclaimed video series Can Do! from VIPS (Visually Impaired Preschool Services). These videos provide vital information to parents of children who are blind or vision impaired.
  • Survey local parents of blind and vision impaired children to determine their needs and interests. Based upon our parent's survey, ForSight Vision will be holding a series of classes this summer to expose children to the arts including music.
  • Schedule an Easter Egg hunt for children who are blind or vision impaired for the Spring of 2011. Using beeping Easter Eggs, ForSight Vision will provide a unique accessible Easter Egg hunt next spring.
  • Take steps to establish an integrated preschool program for children who are blind or vision impaired. Intended to begin in 2013, this program would enable preschool aged children to learn social skills alongside their sighted classmates.

With your continued support, this is all possible. Please join us on September 25th for the Second Annual Run/Walk and become aware!
